Nole has always been one step above his next oponent, but always a vry small step.
Usually big enough for the win in 7 out of their 9 meetings, though almost none of them has been a walkover for the second seed in Monte Carlo.
Wawrinka is one of the few guys in top form, red hot. There are periods like this when u see the ball bigger, you see it better, you can reach it faster and your shots just go the right way.
This is the zone Stanislas is in right now and this is the form that Nole hasn't tasted for a long, long time.
Since the hardly fought Dubai tittlw (but even there) Nole is in a disapointing shape.
There are two scenarios for this - 1. Just like that. He just doesn't feel his game right, he feels a bit bored, or has some personal problems, or maybe didn't try that much in the trainings, etc.
2. He's been unfocused at the end of the hard courts semi season, because he might be totally on the clay wave, preparing mentaly and physically for the ultimate tittle - Roland Garros.
IMO it's a bit of both, though losing to Oli Rochus in first round of a ATP Masters tournament hasn't helped his state of mind too much for sure.
After seing today how a player in bad form but wityh a big name, was demolished by an inform player, though a smaller name, precisely - Murray - Kohlschreiber, i see no reason not taking probably the man in best form (together with Berdych), against a champion who needs to prove himself first to be trusted.
As i said - they've always made tight matches and most of them have been in Nole's usual form and Wawrinka's worse one, so here should be even tighter.
